One of Android's biggest strengths is its flexibility. Unlike Apple and its iPhone, Google lets users and third-party developers tweak just about every aspect of the Android interface, and the customization options are nearly endless. If you find something that you don't like about your phone, odds are good that you can change it. From the desktop wallpaper to the notification sounds to the blinking LED indicator light, Android is easy to personalize. Here's how to give Android your own personal flair.

Top 10 sites to test your broadband connection speed

Are you getting the optimal bandwidth that you paid for? Test your internet connection for speed, latency and packet loss with 10 free online tools.
Follow these five steps first to get accurate broadband speed test results before you start testing:

  1. Why do you need ten different options to test your broadband connection? Well, we’d suggest you try all ten to get and average out the results. You can then more or less confirm the kind of bandwidth that your service provider is piping to you. If you have the patience, it is suggested that you try each tests at least twice to ensure that the occasional drop in bandwidth or any communication by the background apps don’t end up giving you the wrong picture.

In the wireless internet market, two of the most popular brands are of Reliance and Tata. (reliance being pretty bad in the starting stage)
I tried both the USB modems, but, i'm only satisfied with tata's Photon+.
No doubt, Reliance's Broadband + was launched earlier than the Photon, but still Reliance is the worst. When i used the reliance, it semmed good in the beginning, but after a while, it started behaving very badly. It used to switch on from the HSIA to 1x, at any time, and then shift from 1x to HSIA, causing a lot of connection

With dozens of Windows PCs available at retail, each preloaded with one of several versions of Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system, it's far too easy to buy a version of the OS that doesn't meet your needs. Maybe that bargain Acer Aspire One netbook you're eying runs Windows 7 Starter, but you'd prefer Windows 7 Home Premium, which adds the slick Aero interface, better media tools, and the ability to run more than three apps at once.
Or perhaps you're ready to buy a full-size HP laptop with Win 7 Home Premium, but you really need the enhanced networking and backup tools of Win 7 Professional. (In all, there are six versions of Windows 7.)
Well, Microsoft has a new promotion designed to tickle your upgrade bone at point of sale. Starting April 4, PC buyers will be able to upgrade to fancier version of Windows at a reduced price. Here's the U.S. price breakdown from the company's Windows Blog:
  • Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium: $49.99 (regular price is $79.99)
  • Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional: $79.99 (regular price is $89.99)
Since every copy of Windows 7 is really the Ultimate version (with all the bells and whistles) in disguise, the upgrade should be relatively quick and painless, Redmond says. Win 7 has a tool, Windows Anytime Upgrade, for just this purpose.
These deals are better than nothing, I suppose, but they're hardly barnburners. After all, a $10 savings isn't much of an incentive to upgrade to Win 7 Professional. And will customers who pay $250 for a cheap netbook want to shell out another $50 for Win 7 Home.

Microsoft's OS-upgrade deals are available at participating retailers for a limited time. In the U.S., the offer ends July 3.

IE9 will not support Windows XP

Posted by Narender Singh | 10:19 AM | | 1 comments »

Microsoft's new browser, Internet Explorer 9 (IE9), will not run on Windows XP, now or when the software eventually ships, the company confirmed this week.
The move makes Microsoft the first major browser developer to drop support for XP, the world's most popular operating system, in a future release.
Although Microsoft excluded Windows XP from the list for the IE9 developer preview, it sidestepped the question about which versions of Windows the final browser would support. In an IE9 FAQ, for example, Microsoft responded, "It's too early to talk about features of the Internet Explorer 9 Beta" to the query, "Will Internet Explorer 9 run on Windows XP?"
That caused some users to demand a straight answer. "Please tell whether the final version will run on Windows XP SP3 or not," said someone identified as "eXPerience" in a comment to a blog post by Dean Hachamovich, Microsoft's general manager for the IE team. "If not, please be clear about it. Really, enough is enough of keeping users in the lurch about Windows XP support."
Others bashed Microsoft on the assumption that IE9 would never run on XP. "Dropping Windows XP support is one of the worst decisions ever taken by [the] IE team, probably even worse than disbanding the IE team back in the IE6 days," claimed an anonymous commenter.
Microsoft had offered up broad hints that IE9 was not in Windows XP's future, however. Tuesday, a company spokeswoman said the new browser needs a "modern operating system," a phrase that hasn't been paired with Window XP for years. "Internet Explorer 9 requires the modern graphics and security underpinnings that have come since 2001," she added, clearly referring to XP, which appeared that year.
Windows XP's inability to run the Platform Preview or the final browser stems from, IE9's graphics hardware acceleration, which relies on the Direct2D and DirectWrite DirectX APIs (applications programming interfaces). Support for those APIs is built into Windows 7, and was added to Vista and Windows Server 2008 last October, but cannot be extended to Windows XP.
Some users worried that by halting browser development for Windows XP, Microsoft would repeat a current problem, getting customers to ditch IE6 for a newer version. "Those who choose to stay with XP will be forced to [then] stay forever on IE8, which will become the new IE6," said a user named Danny Gibbons in a comment on Hachamovich's blog.
Tough, said Sheri McLeish, Forrester Research's browser analyst. "This is the stick to get off XP," she said. Windows XP users will solve the browser problem themselves when they upgrade, as most eventually will, to Windows 7. "What are they going to do, go to Linux or run XP forever?" she asked.
Still, IE9's inability to run on Windows XP will prevent it from becoming widespread until the nearly-nine-year-old OS loses significant share to Windows 7. According to Web metrics company NetApplications' most recent data, if IE9 was released today, it would be able to run on just over a quarter -- 27% -- of all Windows machines.
No other major browser maker has announced plans to stop supporting Windows XP, but several have dropped other operating systems or platforms. Last month, for instance, Mozilla said it would not support Apple's Mac OS X 10.4, known as "Tiger," in future upgrades to Firefox. Google's Chrome for the Mac, meanwhile, only runs on Intel-based Macs, not on the older PowerPC-based machines that were discontinued in 2006.
The IE9 Platform Preview can be downloaded from Microsoft's site. It requires Windows 7, Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 or Windows 2008 R2.

Videocon Industries Ltd has placed a bid for third- generation (3G) mobile spectrum in India, coming up in April for auction, a top official said on Friday. "We have already placed a bid for 3G spectrum, except Mumbai and Delhi...," Chairman Venugopal N Dhoot told Reuters over the phone. The company, which already has second- generation (2G) radio wave licences, is also looking at roping in foreign partners for its 3G fray, he said. The firm is in talks with European and U.S. companies for partnering its 3G operations in the country. Dhoot, however, declined to name the companies. It intends to roll out the services through Videocon Industries.

Telecoms firms including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone
and Etisalat DB India Telecom, a unit of UAE-
based Emirates Telecommunication Corporation
will vie for third-generation (3G), as they clamour
for capacity for new services.

Why Google Chrome OS and MS Office are Most Wanted If there are two releases planned for 2010 that all users should look more closely, are the Microsoft Office 2010 and Google Chrome OS. No resemblance, but both will keep you busy looking over pictures and demos. But because there are many good news about these two projects, some video and image material enough to share why these are the most wanted in 2010.

# MICROSOFT OFFICE 2010

After the changes the company made the jump from the 2003 version to the new Office 2007 suite experienced many improvements compared to the older Word and Excel we all knew when we were kids and learned computers using them.

MICROSOFT OFFICE 2010

Screen Post Installation of Office 2010

One of the things that most liked in this beta of Office 2010 is the speed that has the booting and simplicity of its structure, beyond that Office 2003 was extremely minimal.

The fact of using toolboxes for each of the options and alternatives with different tabs that are above, makes the new Office takes up less space to use more options and greater maneuverability for the common user.

Following the same point in the top right corner is an option to use these panels in a more minimalist yet. What makes the little arrow beside the question mark is getting all the panels at a time, so we only choose what to redeploy from the tabs.

If the date is hard to find, two clicks also will. That is, each of the options within the tabs (Insert, Reference, Mail, among others) are able to fold or unfold once we double click over them.

File menu in Microsoft Office 2010

In addition, the File menu is much more graphic than in older versions of the suite. Inside we find several options, among which the Recent submenu to see the latest opened files, the permissions section to protect the document when you save and the information screen provided to us before saving a Word file.

Microsoft Office 2010, Word in particular, we will also make a bridge between various blog editors. Among the list includes some known as Wordpress, Blogger and Windows Live Spaces.

# GOOGLE CHROME OS

Google’s operating system had been developed earlier this year, information that flooded the Internet for several days and fulfilled the expectations of many of us who use services from Google every day, such as GTalk, Gmail and GMaps. I guess everyone almost…

Chrome boot OS (7 seconds)

Chrome boot OS 7 second

A few days back news of the launch scheduled for next year and also the novelty of the event organized by Google to give some details about gOS, demos and let us show some new images.

It was found that Chrome OS starts in about 7 seconds because the PC does not need to start with processes, one behind the other, as with Windows machines that must endure.

Furthermore, gOS will be completely free, with updates throughout the system and the opportunity to unlock the system by ensuring that all the data stored will be stored online. In addition, we have a range of applications gDocs style, Youtube or gTalk integrated with our browser, Chrome.

CHROME OS GOS Applications Menu

GOS Applications Menu

Another positive point is that Chrome OS is a system that does not rely on any application that we have pre-installed, so for safety not to trust anyone and thus maintain our stability as possible.

The bad news is that gOS is an operating system that is downloaded like any other and installed. Quite contrary, at the time of its release, gOS will run on laptops that are manufactured exclusively for it. Most people will get discouraged, but I am sure that the Laptops or netbooks will cost much less than with Windows 7.

This video which explains a little more what is Chrome OS, comparisons with the browser and boot other operating systems. gOS will have its official launch in late 2010.

I think the whole world is waiting for this Launch … what say ??

Microsoft Windows 8 Might be Released on 2012 After the boom of the apocalyptic movie 2012, breaking all expectations and lockers, I think many are wondering if when that time comes we will all live and survive the supposed end of humanity. Though I didn’t like the movie much…

News : "GO" – Google’s New Programming Language: Open Source

But for those who are not as pessimistic and prefer to keep watching the progress of technology, I must tell you that there are some rumors and dates that match for a possible upgrade of Windows Server will also be accompanied with the new Windows 8.

Too soon ? Maybe … but given the huge amount of people who have laid eyes on Seven and have been fully satisfied, to launch a new operating system in 2 years is not such a bad idea.

Microsoft's Windows 8 Might be Released on 2012

As discussed in Cnet, Microsoft in recent times has attempted to release versions of Windows Server almost on a par with the desktop. So in this 2009, accompanied by the launch of the new Windows Server 2008 R2, we could also consider further improvements to Windows Seven.

Given this coincidence, considering that in 2012 Microsoft is planning another new update to the version of Windows for servers, it is likely that the group of developers begins to chart a common timeline to amaze us with the MSWindows 8 .

You can get some more info at http://windows8beta.com/

As for now the said thing about windows 8, are only rumors and coincidences, but I’m sure more than one likes the idea of having a new ad within 2 years to further improve the already very good Windows Seven of this year.
